Policy advice at the Province of South Holland
South Holland is the most populous province in the Netherlands. A quarter of all new dwellings in the Netherlands need to be constructed within this province. Since 2024, I work as a senior advisor Housing. I'm primarily responsible for the Haaglanden region, which includes The Hague, Delft, Zoetermeer and six more municipalities.
From provincial policy to realisation
From provincial policy to realisation
I work to ensure the province meets its housing construction targets by forming the link between the province and stakeholders in the Haaglanden region, including municipalities, social housing associations and developers. I represent the province in regional platforms, such as the 'Regionale Versnellingstafel Haaglanden', which unites stakeholders and experts to solve a wide range of issues and speed up the construction of new housing. I oversee the regional housing programme, assess new housing plans and encourage the construction of more social and affordable housing.
Connecting housing and other domains
I advise the provincial executive ('Gedeputeerde Staten') on housing matters in the Haaglanden region. To achieve this, I use my network to be informed about discussions, problems, questions or sensitivities in the region. Whenever necessary, I make sure stakeholders get the appropriate support from the province to facilitate the housing construction. Since Haaglanden is the most densely populated region of the Netherlands, housing competes for space with other important domains, such as economy (industrial or agricultural zoning), nature, mobility, water, etc. Together with colleagues who specialise in these other domains, I try to find solutions that result in an optimal use of the scarse space.
